Finally.. In from the Cold?

In the Bronco's quest for improvement on the gridiron, one way for Boise State to vault past the heralded programs in front of them in the BCS rankings is to pick off some of their recruits, as has happened in reverse so often. Enter Kenny Ashley, who has, if unwillingly so, become the current poster boy for recruiting agreements that disintegrate in the eleventh hour.

"Pretty much everything that happened with SC, just happened that way and I ended up going through the recruiting process all over," said Kenny Ashley of his publicized agreement with USC, his admitted dream school.

Questions of academic eligibility surfaced late in the process after the Trojans made a late surge to steal Ashley away from Mississippi State. As the situation with his dream school turned into a slowly unfolding nightmare, Ashley was right back where he started, with Boise State in a head-to-head race with UNLV as the beneficiary after the dust settled. Ashley has taken a trip to Boise, with a trip to Las Vegas upcoming. With the lights and lure of the Strip have something to offer, considering the recent past, Ashley might be looking for a change to something more grounded and real.

"I saw a game while I was there," Ashely said. "It was great to see how much Boise supports the program. I really liked it up there," the heralded back said. "I know they'll need another back and I really feel like I can step in and contribute early."

While luring a back of Ashley's capacity would be a big win for the Broncos, his capacity to open doors for other high-profile recruits would be a bonus of immeasurable benefit.

What might help give Boise the edge is that it is a complete change for the back from Venice High and a change might do him good at this point.

"It will be a big change," Ashley said. "But I'm willing to make any change right now. I think it will help make me a better man, a better student and a better player."

Just don't expect a choice right away. Despite the approaching signing date, Ashley is cautious of repeating past mistakes.

"I just don't want what happened with SC to happen again," Ashley said. "I'm just not going to rush the situation."

Bronco fans can probably live with that—especially if it means that the next time he rushes things it is across blue turf in a Bronco uniform.
