How Good Are The Broncos?
How good are the General's guys? We will soon find out. So far in this young season Greg Patton's number twenty-fifth-in-the-nation, Boise State Broncos, have met with little competition. Witness Saturday, January 20th, at Boas Tennis & Soccer Center. The Broncos hosted the four team ITA Mountain Region Indoor Playoffs. One team would move on to Chicago for the "Sweet Sixteen" finals of the National Team Indoor Championships. Which one would it be…BSU the lone WAC team…or one of three MWC teams, UNLV, BYU, or University of New Mexico? Saturday's playoffs resulted in a no-contest! And we still don't know how good the Broncos are. One thing for sure, the Broncos are the best in the Mountain Region of the West. Saturday was all Boise State. The Broncos first blanked UNLV 4-0…then played, (toyed) with New Mexico, 4-0 upset winners over BYU (#73) earlier in the day. The Broncos blanked New Mexico 5-0. Three months earlier, on October 18, at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas, the Broncos almost destroyed the tourney on the very first day. They won and unheard of ten of eleven opening day matches…and went on to win the team title. That's all going to change. We'll have a real look soon. Soon …we will know how good the Broncos are. They will be playing dual matches against six West Coast California powerhouse teams, plus the University of Virginia (#8), beginning next week, January 24th, ending with USC (#43), on February 10th. The match schedule. Virginia (#8)…January 24th. Stanford (#9)…January 27th. Santa Clara (UR)…January 28th. University of San Diego (#42)…February 3rd. San Diego State (#49)…February 4th. University of Santa Barbara (#70)…February 9th. USC (#43)…February 10th. Then it's off to Chicago for the first mega test of 2007 on February 16-18. Sixteen teams, the best in the nation, will be assembled for the National Indoor Team Championships…including all the nationally ranked teams…from #1 through #13. They are. Georgia…(#1), Baylor…(#2), Ohio State…(#3), UCLA…(#4), Illinois…(#5), Ole Miss…(#6), Duke…(#7), Virginia…(#8), Stanford…(#9), Pepperdine…(#10), Miami…(#11), Texas…(#12), Notre Dame…(#13), Oklahoma State…(#16), Penn…(#50), and Boise State…(#25). Whoaa Nellie! That's competition!
