With their backs against the wall, the Boise State wrestling squad turned to Andy Patrick and Cory Fish. The two stars came through with victories, enabling the Broncos to top Cal State-Fullerton tonight in Pac-10 wrestling.
The Boise State wrestling team fought from behind to score a 17-15 win
over Cal State-Fullerton tonight to even their Pac-10 record at 1-1.
Fullerton captured three of the first four matches,
with #15 Tyler Sherfey's 14-1 decision the only
Bronco win. Nate
Lee piled up a 23-10 decision over Fullerton's Ryan Budd at 174 pounds and Boise State's Luke Smith notched a 10-3 win over Scott Judd at 184
pounds. Smith's win was even more
impressive as he had moved up two weights due to an injury in the Broncos' starting
With three matches to go, Boise State was down by one point.
#7 heavyweight Andy Patrick came through with a
3-2 win over Wade Sauer and Cory Fish scored a 9-2 win in the 125-pound class
to secure the Bronco victory.
Boise State heads out on the road for three matches this weekend. The Broncos take on Portland
State tomorrow afternoon at 1 before challenging Oregon tomorrow night at 7 in Eugene. The Bronco squad
concludes their Oregon trip with a match against #15 Oregon State Sunday in Corvallis.
