Bronco Gymnasts Shock The Field In Texas

In what has been an otherwise rough season for the Boise State gymnastics team, the Broncos performed well in all four events to take home first place in the Texas Women's quadrangular meet.

The Boise State gymnastics team surprised the field at the Texas Women's University quadrangular meet by scoring a season-high 193.975 to win the meet.  Host Texas Women's had 192.100, Illinois State finished with 192.425 and Illinois-Chicago finished with a score of 189.400.  Coach Sam Sandmire's team improved to 5-7 with the win.

The Broncos got individual victories from Shaniece Craft on Vault, freshman DeAvera Todd on beam and Kristin Aldrich in the floor exercises.  Craft, the defending Western Athletic Conference vault champion, nailed a career high of 9.775, while freshman Yvette Leizorek finished third.  Todd posted a career-high 9.85 on beam to win her first title in that event.  Leizorek received a score of 9.825 on floor.

Leizorek also finished third on vault with a career-high 9.775, helping the Broncos score 48.550 as a team. She also tied with junior Katie Griffis for second on bars, each with 9.750's.

The Broncos return to action March 2, when they host a quad meet with UC-Davis, Oregon State and Seattle Pacific at Taco Bell Arena.
