Boise State Tennis Team Scores Two Shutouts

The #21 Boise State tennis team put on a show for fans yesterday in the sunshine. The Broncos defeated both Montana State and Loyola-Marymount by identical 7-0 scores.

Bronco tennis fans were treated to a glorious day of sunshine and great tennis yesterday at the Appleton Center.  #21 Boise State swept both Montana State and Loyola-Marymount 7-0 on the Bronco courts to improve to 23-5 this season.  Coach Greg Patton's group has now won six straight matches and 14 of their last 15.

Brent Werbeck played his best tennis of the season, breaking Igor Vuckovic's serve six times in winning 6-0, 6-0 in the opener and then downing Matt Phillips of Loyola in straight sets.  The Bronco senior has now won five matches in a row.

Eric "Robo" Roberson teamed first with Blake Boswell and then Piotr Dilaj to earn two doubles victories.  Robo and Boswell have now won 18 doubles matches this season to lead the team.  Roberson also earned two straight sets singles wins to extend his winning streak to seven matches.  Boswell is now 6-0 while playing No. 2 singles with two wins yesterday.

Stanley Sarapanich combined with Werbeck to defeat Montana State and then paired with Boswell to down Loyola-Marymount  He also recorded five service breaks in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Montana State's David Kovas and clinched the match against Loyola with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Renzo Maggi.

The doubles team of Clancy Shields and Steve Robertson won twice for their sixth and seventh victories in their last seven matches.  Shields won his first-ever victory at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Loyola's Nico Terrien to advance his record to 21-11.  His brother Luke, who usually leads the Broncos at the top of the lineup, was given a well-deserved day off.  Robertson prevailed in the most exciting match of the day in downing Loyola's Jacek Twarowski 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.

Dilaj collected the clinching match point over Montana State at No. 1 singles, as he brushed aside Jakob Dybala 6-4, 6-1, to earn his 19th victory of the season and to improve to 4-0 while playing No. 1.

Jamaal Hepburn remained undefeated in dual matches with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Montana State's Myles.
