Lady Broncos Down #44 Denver 5-2

For the fifth time this season, the Boise State women's tennis team defeated a ranked opponent, as Coach Mark Tichenor's team bounced #44 Denver 5-2 yesterday.

After a stinging 5-2 defeat at the hands of #35 BYU Thursday, the Boise State women's tennis team righted the ship with an impressive 5-2 win of their own over #44 Denver yesterday in Colorado.  Coach Mark Tichenor's Broncos are now 13-3 on the season.

Depth gave the Lady Broncos the win as Polina Kokoulina, Jana Mackova, Klaudia Wlodarczyk and Stacey Housley all captured singles victories in the middle of the lineup for Boise State.  Mackova notched her 12th win of the season with a straight sets 6-2, 6-4 victory over Denver's Julia Bauregger.  Housley downed Kaja Smole at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-4 for her 25th singles win of the year.  Kokoulina then clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ute Schnoy to improve to 9-2 at No. 2 singles.  For extra measure, Wlodarczyk defeated Rachel Sackmaster in a super tiebreaker 7-6, 2-6, 11-9.

Laura Baum and Mackova dominated Annette Aksdal and Schnoy 8-1 for their 10th doubles win of the year at No. 1 doubles, and then Tiffany Coll and Wlodarczyk clinched the point with an 8-3 win over Denver's Lorinda Boothman and Marisa Mechem.  Kokoulina and Tatiana Ganzha followed with an 8-5 victory over Bauregger and Sackmaster.

The Broncos host the Boise State Spring Classic this Thursday through Saturday at the Appleton Tennis Center.  That will be the final tune-up for the team until the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, which is set for April 26-28 in Boise.
