Boise State Coach Greg Patton won his 600th collegiate tennis match yesterday, guiding the Broncos to a 7-0 sweep over WAC Rival Utah State. Boise State concludes their regular season with two home matches next Saturday, then hosts the WAC Tennis Championships beginning Friday, April 27th.

Boise State Hall of Fame tennis coach Greg Patton won for the 600th time of his collegiate coaching career last night as the #22 Broncos blanked Utah State 7-0 at the Appleton Tennis Center.

Patton has compiled a remarkable 600-273 record in his career that includes a 248-78 record during his eleven seasons at Boise State. In that time, Patton has led the Broncos to eight conference titles and nine berths in the NCAA Championships.  Patton has also coached at UC Santa Barbara (1976-78), CSU Bakersfield (1978-79), UC Irvine (1979-1992). Patton's 1997 team was ranked #2 in the nation and finished fifth at the NCAA Championships, earning Greg NCAA Coach of the Year honors.

The Broncos swept all three doubles matches to set up the historic day.  Piotr Dilaj and Eric Roberson played No. 1 doubles for the first time this season and promptly ousted Oscar Ericsson and Jonas Tvden 8-1.  Stanley Sarapanich and Blake Boswell then won their match 8-4, followed by a victory by Clancy Shields and Brent Werbeck by the same count.

Bronco singles players did not lose a set in completing the sweep.  Luke Shields downed Ericsson 6-2, 6-1 to record his 31st victory of the season.  Shields is now four shy of tying his own Boise State record of 35, which he set as a freshman.  Dilaj won at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 win, then Roberson notched his 20th victory of the year with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Utah State's Fernando Galegos.

Werbeck followed with a 6-3, 7-5 victory to put Boise State ahead 5-0.  Sarapanich scored a 6-2, 6-1 win and Jamaal Hepburn continued his undefeated streak with a 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 6 singles.

Boise State improved to 25-5 this season with their ninth straight win while the Aggies slip to 6-7.

Coach Patton and the Broncos conclude their regular season next Saturday with matches against Eastern Washington at 10:30 a.m. and vs. UC-Irvine at 6 p.m.  Boise State will host the WAC Championships Friday April 27th through Sunday the 29th at the Appleton Center and various locations throughout Boise.
