Boise State #1 In Scoring Last Eight Years

The Boise State football team not only has the best record since 1999; they also are the nation's #1 scoring team in that time. The Broncos are the only team in the nation averaging over 40 points a game in the last eight years. Boise State has scored 40.5 points a game, a full two points higher than second-place Texas. What's more--Boise State is #1 since they joined Division I-A in 1996.

Boise State is the most prolific college football scoring machine since 1999.  The Broncos have scored an incredible 4,139 points since then in 102 games, an average of 40.5 points per game.  Boise State has scored 280 more points during that time period than the second-place school, Texas.  The Longhorns have totaled 3,859 over 101 games for an average of 38.2.

Boise State is not the only Western Athletic Conference school in the top 25.  The league is quickly gaining a reputation as an outstanding offensive league.  Hawai'i ranks fifth in scoring from 1999-2006 with 3,627 points in 104 games, an average of 35.0 points per game, while Fresno State is 16th with a 31.0 average.

Oklahoma, the team that the Broncos vanquished in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, is among the leaders as well, averaging 35.2 points a game.  The Sooners rank fourth in scoring average.

In fact, Boise State has played five of the top offenses of the last eight years, compiling a 13-3 record against the nation's top offensive teams.  The Broncos are 6-1 against Hawai'i, 4-1 vs. Fresno State, 1-0 against Oklahoma and Bowling Green and 1-1 vs. Louisville.

Boise State is #1 since they joined Division I-A in 1996--the Broncos have scored 4,993 points for an average of 36.71. Texas is second averaging 36.68. Coach Chris Petersen's team passed the Longhorns this year. Kansas State is third with an average of 34.6. Louisville is averaging 34.3 in that time period, followed by Florida (33.5), Nebraska (33.1), Florida State (33.0), Miami of Florida (32.7), Virginia Tech (32.5), USC (32.2), Texas Tech (31.9) and Oklahoma (31.4).
