Boise State Is 5th In The Modern Era

When a college football team averages over 40 points a game, it's a big deal. When that same team does it over eight years, it is historic. The Boise State Broncos have done just that, averaging 40.58 points the last eight seasons. That feat has only been accomplished nine times in the modern era and Nebraska is the only other schools to do it.

You may have heard that Boise State leads all Division I-A college football teams in the nation in scoring over the last eight years (1999-2006).  Those same Bronco teams (1999-2006) rank 14th in the history of college football for their 40.58 scoring average over eight seasons.  That Boise State scoring average is 5th only to the great Nebraska teams in scoring average for the modern era.  If Boise State scores 502 points in 12 games this season (they've done it before), they will be able to lay claim to being the top offensive juggernaut since 1893.

The Bronco teams from 1998-2005 rank 20th all-time while Boise State's teams from 1997-2004 rank 27th.

The Yale teams of the 19th century dominate the top scoring machines with the top seven spots.  The Yale teams from 1883-1890 averaged an incredible 49.97 points per game.
