Thompson is Bronco Female Athlete of the Year

Coach Gordy Presnell's Broncos were on the rise, but could they win the WAC? You bet! Jessica Thompson edged a talented field to win the title of Bronco Female Athlete of the Year.

Basketball—Jessica Thompson

Thompson, a sophomore out of Temecula, California, became the first Bronco woman to be named to the All-WAC Basketball Team. Thompson finished the regular season ranked sixth in the WAC with 13.8 points per game, third in three-point percentage at 35.5 percent, third in free throw percentage 78.2 percent and fourth in assists at 2.23 per game. The sophomore recorded 19 games in double-digit points, seven with 20+ including a season high 25 at Oregon on November 24. In addition, she led the team in scoring 13 times, in rebounding four times, and in assists four times. The sophomore was named the WAC player of the week twice during the season on January 15 and 29.

Thompson led the Broncos to their first-ever WAC regular-season championship, which Boise State backed up by winning the conference tournament as well. Boise State won the automatic berth to the NCAA National Championships for the first time since 1994. The Broncos finished the year with a sterling record of 24-9.
