Broncos Continue Canadian Success

Boise State juggled it's starting lineup in the first game of their Sunday Double header, starting new Bronco's Aaron Garner and Jamar Greene, along with 2 players fresh off a redshirt season in Zach Moritz and Kurt Cunningham, and 1 walkon guard in former BK standout Steven Tracey, and the group did not disappoint, winning 106-65 over the University College of the Fraser Valley.

Bronco regular's Tyler Tiedeman and Matt  Nelson saw limited action, likely to save them some wear and tear before the 2nd game of the day, and Anthony Thomas and Reggie Larry sat out the second of their team imposed 2-game suspension for unspecified team rules violations.. but the game belonged to the new Broncos.

Boise State took control of the game early, leading from wire to wire.  Moritz was very active on the offensive boards early, but Kurt Cunningham is the one that took over when he decided to attack on the offensive end.  Boise State was able to extend its lead thanks to the sharp shooting of Matt Bauscher and Jamar Greene, both of whom hit from long distance on consecutive possessions more than once.  Greene specifically was the focus of the Bronco's offense much of the afternoon, scoring from beyond the 3, driving and hitting, and penetrating with ease.  Greene has what was described as an awkward looking shot where he has a 'hitch' in his shot, but it obviously works for him as he scored at will and led all scorers with 23 points.

Boise State took it's largest lead of the game heading into the start of the 4th quarter at 71-50, and extended it to a 27 point lead when Aaron Garner hit a running shot despite being fouled and then sank the free throw.  The Broncos then used their superior size and a zone defense that was implemented more to conserve energy for the players than it was to cause offensive disruption to push the score to over 100 points for the second straight game.  Fraser Valley lost to Marquette 90-55 Friday night.

Boise State's shooting has improved with the addition of Greene and Garner as the Broncos went 15 for 25 from beyond the 3-point line, (60%), and shot 58% from the field for the game.  Matt Nelson went for a double/double in just 18 minutes played.

Boise State plays again this evening against Douglas College, who advanced to the national title game in Canada last season.
