Lady Broncos Explode For 70-54 Win

With injuries to their two top post players, Boise State still outrebounded Louisiana Tech en route to a 70-54 WAC win.

Jessica Thompson scored 20 points to lead Boise State over Louisiana Tech 70-54 tonight at Taco Bell Arena in Boise for their eighth victory in a row.  The Broncos have now won 12 consecutive games in Taco Bell Arena.  Coach Gordy Presnell's team remains a game behind Fresno State in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

Boise State overcame a poor-shooting first half and a 28-19 disadvantage on the boards to come back from a 27-26 deficit.  Presnell's halftime speech inspired the Broncos, as they went on a 7-0 run following the break to take a 33-27 lead.  Tech was able to tie the game at 39 with 15:21 remaining but could never retake the lead.  The Lady Broncos went on a tear to take a 53-43 lead with just under 10 minutes left and they did not let up until the final buzzer.

The Broncos shot 36 percent (9-25) from three-point territory and connected on 13-16 free throws (81.3%) to keep the Bulldogs at bay.  Boise State controlled the boards in the second half and outrebounded the WAC's top rebounding team 45-44 at the end.  Coach Presnell's team also took excellent care of the basketball, committing just 13 turnovers themselves and dominating the Lady Techsters 26-12 in points off turnovers.

Thompson also had seven rebounds, six assists and five steals for Boise State.  Jackie Lee had 13 points while Jamia Malone had 11 points and three steals.  Tasha Harris saw her 25-game streak of double-digit scoring end with nine points, but she grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists and three steals for the Broncos.

JoKierra Sneed had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who fell to 4-5 in the WAC and 10-12 overall.

Boise State advanced to 8-2 in conference and 16-6 overall with a critical WAC showdown against New Mexico State Saturday night.  The Broncos and Aggies tip it off at 7:05 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena.
