Firming Up His Decision

St. John Bosco HS FS Will Shamburger (Bellflower, CA) became the twelfth 2009 Boise State commitment back on August 18th. He was in Boise for his official visit when the Broncos took on Bowling Green. He spoke to BroncoCountry.com about the visit and his future as a Bronco.

St. John Bosco HS FS Will Shamburger (Bellflower, CA) became the twelfth 2009 Boise State commitment back on August 18th. "I feel like I'm 90% committed to Boise State now," he said. "The visit was great."

Shamburger was recruited by (Defensive Secondary Coach) Marcel Yates. "Coach Yates recruited me," he said. "I really like that he's straight forward. He won't hold anything back."

The visit got off to an early start as he and (commit) John Michael Davis were on the same plane headed to Boise. "John Michael is a cool guy," he said. "He had just gotten injured prior to the visit and was hoping to get back on the field," he added.

Shamburger and his aunt took a tour of the campus when they arrived. "We toured the facilities," he said. "We were introduced to the coaches and we went to the pre-game meal for the players." Will was also right in the middle of the pre-game strategy. "Coach Yates talked to me about their coverages while we watched them warmup."

Will and his aunt also had a conversation with Chris Petersen. "Coach Pete is a real cool guy. He's funny and laid back," he said. "He was very interested in what we thought of Boise and he talked to me about academics," he added.

The gameday atmosphere was everything Shamburger expected and more. "It was crazy," he said. "It was very loud. I couldn't hear myself talk." He also came away impressed with the performance of the defense. "The defense did really good," he said. "They really didn't make any big mistakes," he added.

Boise is the perfect city for Shamburger. "I thought the city was very nice and quiet," he said. "It was a lot different than here. It was real nice."

The biggest selling point for Will Shamburger and why he committed might come as a surprise. It's certainly an area that Bronco fans can relate to. "Me and my grandpa always go fishing," he said. "I love the lakes around the city and would love to go fishing up there. I really liked that about Boise."

Shamburger and his teammates are off to a hot start this season. "We're 3-0," he said. "The LA Times had us in the Top 25 in the area." Will has been moving around a bit on the field to fill the needs of his team. "I'm actually playing DE this season," he said. "I have three or four sacks." Shamburger will be a FS at Boise State. "FS is my best position."

St. John Bosco HS has a tough matchup this Friday. "Our next game is against Loyola," he said. "They are 3-0 and a pretty good team. We are going to have to work hard," he added.

BroncoCountry.com will have updates on Will Shamburger throughout his senior season.
