Linehan Earns All-State Honors

Banks HS ATH Gabe Linehan (Banks, OR) committed to Boise State back in July and he just recently finished his senior season. Banks HS ended the season with a disappointing loss in the 4A State Championship Game against Astoria. Linehan spoke to about his senior season, his future as a Bronco, and his upcoming official visit to Boise State.

Banks HS ATH Gabe Linehan (Banks, OR) committed to Boise State back in July and he couldn't be happier with his decision. "I compared Boise State to my other choices and they came out on top in every category," he said. "I'm 100% committed to Boise State."

Linehan (6'3, 205) was recruited by Coach (Justin) Wilcox. "Coach Wilcox recruited me," he said. "He's real personable and easy to talk to. He can relate to you and he's a big reason why I chose Boise State," he added.

Gabe also thinks very highly of Chris Petersen. "Coach Pete is in the same boat as Wilcox," he said. "He's a real good guy and I would love to be a part of his offense."

The standout ATH started receiving interest from Boise State after his performance over the summer at the football camp in Boise. "I performed well at the camp," he said. "They took notice of me. Coach Wilcox called and told me they'd like to offer me."

Receiving that offer from Boise State was a dream come true for Linehan. "My whole life and high school career has been about playing football," he said. "You strive for it. It was a great relief."

It didn't take long for Linehan to make his decision. "I like to have things planned out," he said. "I committed two days after I got the offer. I wanted to get it over with," he added.

Linehan was recruited as an ATH and he brings plenty of versatility to the Broncos. "The coaches have given me the freedom at this point to kind of dictate where I will be in the future," he said. The standout prospect earned First Team All-State at the LB position (The Oregonian) as he racked up 130 tackles, 3 sacks, and 20 TFL. He also had an excellent season at QB for Banks HS. He had 23 TD passes and over 2,500 yards passing. He also added 9 rushing TDs on the ground. "I have been playing both ways since my sophomore year," he said.

It's becoming a bit of a tradition for the Linehan family when it comes to playing college football at the highest level. "My two brothers played for Oregon State and Oregon," he said. "Josh played at Oregon State and Cole played at Oregon."

College football is all about rivalries and that can be seen when looking at the Linehan family. Gabe wore a Bronco shirt to the first game of the season as he watched his brother play against Washington. "I wore a Boise State shirt the first game of the year," he said. "Cole told me he wasn't going to give me anymore tickets," Linehan added with a laugh.

Gabe was in attendance when the Broncos played the Ducks in Autzen Stadium. "I had a big smile from ear to ear," he said. "It was fun to watch. I got the whole experience," he added.

The 2008 football season for Banks HS was a wild ride as they played the underdog role all the way to the 4A State Championship game. "We finished 11-3," he said. "We lost 19-11 to Astoria."

The Class of 2009 turned the Banks football program around and they did so in a big way. "We didn't win a game my sophomore year," he said. "We went 0-10." That made the accomplishments of this season even more satisfying for Linehan. "We have the second smallest school in 4A," he said. "Everyone one stepped up," he added.

Linehan will be taking his official visit to Boise State during the weekend of January 23rd. "The camp was my first time in Boise," he said. "Right when I got off the plane I had a good feeling. It'll be cool to go around town and see what there is to do."

Gabe's preparation for his arrival in Boise will begin soon. "I'll be doing a lot of physical therapy stuff for my back," he said. "I'll be doing cardio and weightlifting in the afternoon," he added.

Linehan and his work ethic will make him a perfect fit for the Broncos. "I just want to continue to better myself," he said. will continue to have updates on Gabe Linehan.
