Lady Broncos Win 3rd Straight on the Road

Just when they needed it most, the Boise State women's basketball team is surging on the road. The Lady Broncos downed San Jose State last night for their third consecutive road victory.

The Boise State women's basketball team scored their third straight road win with an impressive 56-45 Western Athletic Conference victory over San Jose State last night.  Courtney VanBrocklin and Brittany Moore combined for 22 second-half points to hold off the Spartans and guarantee a winning season for the Lady Broncos despite injuries to seven players this season.

Coach Gordy Presnell's group pulled away from San Jose State with an 11-2 run to finish the first half ahead 27-18.  Freshman Heather Pilcher led the charge with eight first-half points.  When the Spartans pulled to 30-25, Boise State dug deep and went on a 15-7 run to grab their biggest lead of the night at 45-32 on two VanBrocklin free throws.

The Spartans again cut the lead to five, 47-42, with just under five minutes to play.  But the Lady Broncos again responded, stretching the lead to double digits and securing the win.

VanBrocklin paced the Broncos with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Moore chipped in 15 points and nailed three-of-six three-pointers.

Chasity Shavers led San Jose State with 11 points while Shaunna Ridge and eight points and eight rebounds.

Presnell's Broncos improve to 9-5 in the WAC and 16-12 overall while San Jose State slips to 1-14 in league play and 2-26 overall.

Boise State has a long trip to Honolulu to take on the Rainbow Wahine tomorrow night.  A win there would keep the Lady Broncos in the hunt for the regular season WAC title.  Boise State is tied with Idaho for third place with 9-5 records, trailing both Fresno State (10-3) and Louisiana Tech (9-4).
