Bronco Track Stars Hope for Redemption

Despite the rest of their teammates finisihing the season poorly last week, the Bronco stars competing in next week's NCAA Regional Track Championship are well positioned to be among the best in Eugene.

Boise State will send 15 entries in 11 events to the 2009 NCAA West Regional Track and Field Championships next week in Eugene, Oregon

BYU is the only western school outside the Pac-10 that is projected to score higher than the Boise State men, meaning that the student-athletes Boise State sends are serious contenders for not only regional championships but berths in the National's.  The Broncos are projected to finish ninth at the Regionals, beating Pac-10 schools UCLA, Oregon State and Arizona.

Three Broncos look to "put the hammer down" in the event that features the largest contingent.  Simon Wardhaugh is ranked #1 in the west while Trevor Kraychir and Alex Nelson will try to surprise.

Superstar Ryan Grinnell has qualified in three different events; he'll definitely be the busiest Bronco.  Grinnell, who won all three events at the WAC Championships last weekend, is #1 in the triple jump, #2 in the long jump and #4 in the high jump.

Zacharias Arnos also qualified in the triple jump as the #5 seed in the west with Eetu Viitala also entered.  Pontus Thomee is the #6 seed in the javelin and the Bronco 4 x 100-meter relay team will also be making the trip to Eugene.

The Bronco women are represented by Breanna Sande in the steeplechase, Sasa Kampic in the javelin, Annelise Bertleson in the pole vault, Kayleen McDowell in the 800 and hammer thrower Mele Vaisima.
