Corral Conversations: John Michael Davis

Tesoro HS LB John Michael Davis (Las Flores, CA) signed with Boise State back in February and now he is prepared to begin his career as a Bronco. Davis and his teammates finished the 2008 season with an unbelievable run that saw them nearly take home a state championship. He spoke to about his unbelievable senior season, his report date, and his future as a Bronco.

Tesoro HS LB John Michael Davis (Las Flores, CA) signed with Boise State back in February and now he his prepared to take his talent to The Blue in Boise. "I'll be up there July 8th," he said. "I might just stay up there until August or come back for a week and then go back out."

Davis (6'1, 221, 4.5) has been hard at work since the 2008 season ended. He wants to be in the best condition possible when he arrives. "I've just been getting bigger, stronger, faster for the season so I'll have a better chance to play." The decision to redshirt or play in 2009 will be made when he arrives in Boise. "They are just going to look and tell me if I can redshirt or play," he said. "I don't mind. It would be fun to play but it's fine if they want me to redshirt," he added.

Davis graduates on June 18th and he's looking forward to becoming a Bronco. "I'm getting pretty pumped to get up there and workout with the team," he said.

John Michael has kept in close contact with the coaches at Boise State. "I text and call Coach Choate and talk to Coach K sometimes," he said. "He (Coach K) was just at our school last week." Pete Kwiatkowski stopped by to see John Michael while on a recruiting trip in the LA area.

Last season, the Tesoro Titans proved the doubters wrong as they continued to win week by week and marched on throughout the season. They would eventually finish 12-1 with a tough loss to powerhouse Long Beach Poly in the state playoffs. "It was awesome," Davis said in reference to his senior season. "Felt really good to end my HS career on such a high note. It was great to go out with really good football and hope it carries over to Boise." John Michael finished the 2008 season with 80 tackles and 7-8 sacks.

The 2009 football season will feature Boise State on ESPN a total of six times. That's a record for the program. "It's awesome to get that much exposure," he said. "Everyone will be able to watch our games. Pretty cool," he added.

The first game of John Michael's career as a Bronco will be huge as the Oregon Ducks come to town for one of the biggest non-conference games in the 2009 season. "Huge game," he said. "I watch ESPN and they have that as one of the biggest non-conference games of the season."

What can Bronco fans expect from John Michael? "I'm just a LB," he said. "Good speed and pretty big. I can go up the middle with the big guys and go sideline to sideline as well." will continue to have updates on John Michael Davis as he prepares for his arrival in Boise later this summer.
