Encinal HS S Jonathan Brown (Alameda, CA) committed to Boise State for the 2009 class just prior to Signing Day on January 24th. "It's a blessing to be a Bronco," he said. "It's a work of God. God has blessed me and my family with this opportunity. I'm really looking forward to it," he added.

Brown (6'0, 205) has kept in close contact with the Bronco coaching staff over the past few months. "I talk to Coach (Marcel) Yates and Coach (Chris) Strausser the most," he said. "I usually talk to them like once every other week."

The report date already here for Jonathan. "I'm coming on June 15th," he said. "I'm staying for two weeks and then we'll see what happens from there."

The major support system for Brown has always been his parents. "They were all for my commitment," he said. "They were my main supporters and main cheerleaders. I always asked for their advice and kept them involved throughout the process. They felt Boise State was the place for me. I knew I wanted to be a Bronco as soon as I stepped on the turf and I didn't hesitate."

So, what does the future hold for Brown at Boise State? "I don't know what to expect," he said. "I'm just looking forward to it. God put me in this situation for a reason."

Last season, the Encinal Jets rode a wave of momentum all season and finished with an undefeated record. "We went 13-0," he said. "We only had twenty-two players. We beat Novato to win our division and they had won it for three straight years. It was just a dream come true to go undefeated," Brown added. Jonathan Brown performed amazingly on both offense and defense. He racked up 37 total TDs on offense. He finished with 1,300 yards passing and 800+ yards rushing. On defense, he had 90+ tackles, 8 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, and 2 blocked punts. "I've always played offense and defense," he said. "We've always had a small roster. You had to be good at both."

The standout athlete has dedicated himself to his off-season workouts. "They gave me a workout plan. I've been running and getting in shape. The workout plan is upper body and lower body. I've done some agility drills as well."

The new uniforms have been talked about a lot recently and Brown can't wait to put that new uniform on in game one. "My goodness, that little bit of gray really set it off," he said. "I think it's real nice and I can't wait to put it on. Give props to whoever designed them."

What can Bronco fans expect from Jonathan Brown? "Just bring what I have to offer to the table," he said. "Just help the team and learn from those guys. Be a sponge and soak up as much knowledge as I can."

Brown is also an excellent student in the classroom. "I had a 4.0 my last semester," he said. "I worked real hard. I want to major in Communications. You got to be able to talk to people." will continue to have updates on Jonathan Brown as he prepares for his arrival in Boise later this summer.
