Recruiting Is Heating Up For California CB

Junipero Serra HS CB Bene Benwikere (Gardena, CA) has seen his stock rise more and more over the past few months. He recently picked up a few new offers and he's hoping to garner interest from Boise State. Interestingly enough, he has a connection to a current Bronco commit. He spoke to BroncoCountry.com about his interest in Boise State and his recruitment thus far.

Junipero Serra HS CB Bene Benwikere (Gardena, CA) has seen his stock rise more and more over the past few months. He recently picked up a few new offers and he's hoping to garner interest from Boise State. "The first thing I noticed about Boise State is that they have those blue uniforms and that blue field to match it," he said. "It was real cool to see that on TV," he added.

Benwikere (5'11, 177, 4.63) currently holds five offers with the latest being from Iowa State. "Iowa State is the most recent offer," he said. "One of our new coaches is buddies with the Iowa State coach. He asked our coach if he had any players that were athletes and told him he needs a CB. We sent the highlight tape and they offered." UNLV, San Jose State, San Diego State, and New Mexico have also offered the talented DB.

The standout CB receives mail nonstop from the Cyclones. "The coaches seem very loving," Benwikere said. "They call and send me letters all the time. I can get about five or six letters within two or three days from Iowa State."

Bene has a close relationship with current Bronco commit, Bryan Douglas. "Bryan is definitely an athlete," he said. "He likes going after the ball. He has nice feet work and he's tough to beat," he added.

Benwikere has taken notice of Boise State's winning ways. "It's all good when you're #6 in the country," he said. "I think they are very talented and have good coaching. Overall, they just have good structure. They are trying to be the best and their goal is to win it all. I like that. I have a lot of interest in them."

Junipero Serra has breezed through their first few games in the 2009 season. "We're 4-0," he said. "The closest call we've had was against Carson. We won that game 27-17. We have a BYE this Friday and then we play Taft. Everyone is going to have to play smart because they do have some athletes. We just need to handle our business."

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Bene Benwikere.
