Boise State Soccer Set To Host Two

Excitement is building around the Boise State soccer team, which hosts the WAC Championships in less than two weeks. The Broncos seem to be peaking at the right time and will face Hawai'i and league-leader San Jose State this weekend.

The Boise State soccer team prepares to host the 2009 Western Athletic Conference tournament next week in Boise.

Steve Lucas's team will try to continue their winning ways in a pair of home matches against Hawai'i and San Jose State this weekend to close out the regular season.

Boise State has been the aggressor in most of their matches this year, dominating the shots 295-176. One of their keys so far has been a fast start, outscoring opponents 11-4 in the opening half.

Shannon Saxton leads the Broncos with six goals (including two game-winners) and two assists. Erica Parks has five goals and two assists while Maureen Fitzgerald has two goals and four assists this season. Liz Ruiz has been Boise State's top goalkeeper with a 6-3-1 record including three shutouts. Ruiz has faced 103 shots with an .867 saves percentage.

The Lady Broncos head into this weekend's matches with an 8-6-4 record, 3-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. Hawai'i is 2-4 while the Spartans are 4-0-2 and in first place in the WAC.

Boise State faces Hawai'i at 4 p.m. Friday and San Jose State Sunday afternoon at 1 at the Soccer Complex just off of Boise Avenue.
