Broncos Topple Fresno State 65-49

It's difficult to see why Boise State is 2-7 in WAC play. The talent is definitely there. The Broncos proved that as they rolled Fresno State 65-49 at Taco Bell Arena last night.

Kurt Cunningham and Daequon Montreal hit 13 points each as Boise State scored a surprising 65-49 win over Fresno State last night in Boise .  It was Boise State 's first home victory in over a month.  The Broncos beat NAIA Northwest Nazarene December 29th at Taco Bell Arena.

Cunningham hit six-of-eight shots from the field for Boise State .  He is far and away the team's leading shooter, connecting on 58.4% of his shots.  In fact, Cunningham is currently ranked as the #6 career leader in the history of Boise State  He has hit 275-of-466 shots, a sizzling 59%.  The popular star from Indiana is ahead of Tanoka Beard (58.7% from 1989-1993) and Bolden (57.4% from 1981-1985) and just behind Danny Jones (59.4% from 1974-1978).  And he doesn't even start!

Montreal was five-of-ten shooting and also grabbed five rebounds for the Broncos, now 2-7 in the Western Athletic Conference and 11-11 overall.  Boise State has won two straight games after dropping their first seven WAC contests.  That represented the Broncos' worst start since joining the league in 2001.

The win by Coach Greg Graham's team snapped a four-game losing streak.  The last time Boise State lost four consecutive home games was in the 2001-2002 season, the year before Graham took over the Bronco program.

Fresno State (11-12, 4-5), which edged Boise State at home earlier this season, is still winless on the road in conference play.

Paul Noonan finished with 12 points, all on 3-pointers, and also had six rebounds.  The Bronco sharpshooter has 116 career three-pointers, four short of Brian King for 10th place all-time at Boise State .

Robert Arnold led the Broncos with a career-high seven rebounds and also swatted away two blocked shots.

Ike Okoye also had a block for Boise State , giving him 38 this season.  Okoye is now just five blocks away from tying all-time great Jason Ellis for fifth in career blocked shots.  Despite only getting three rebounds last night, Okoye still has a chance to tie Bruce Bolden and Pat Hoke for eighth in the school record books.  That pair averaged 7.0 rebounds in their great Bronco careers; Okoye currently has a 6.9 average.

Anthony Thomas contributed seven points, two steals and two assists last night.  Thomas is now just 61 points shy of becoming the 19th member of the 1,000-points career club at Boise State .  He recently passed Bolden (151) for fourth place in career steals and now has 161, leaving him 18 shy of #3 Gerry Washington.  Thomas passed Bryan Defares (298) for sixth in career assists in the Nevada game.  "A-T" now has 306 and is 37 behind #5 Joe Skiffer (343 from 1999-2004).

Thomas was 1-2 from three-point land last night and is now just two treys behind Tyler Tiedeman's 129 for eighth place.  Anthony also tied Booker Nabors for fifth last night in his 119th game as a Bronco.

Jerry Brown paced Fresno State with 10 points, while Greg Smith and Sylvester Seay added nine points each.
