Kepilino To The Rescue!

Rebecca Kepilino led Boise State to a big lead, and Melissa Rima and Tasha Harris secured the win down the stretch as the Lady Broncos topped Utah State 70-63 last night in Boise.

Senior Rebecca Kepilino poured in a season-high 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds to lead Boise State to a 70-63 win over Utah State last night in Boise .

Boise State shot out to a 35-28 halftime lead.  Kepilino scored 10 of Boise State's first 15 points of the second half as Coach Gordy Presnell's team built a 44-34 lead with 17:13 remaining.  The Lady Broncos did not put the hammer down on the 11-10 Aggies, however.  As a result, Utah State went on a 20-6 run that put them up 56-50 with 8:50 to play.

Gut check time.

The Lady Broncos responded, tightening up their defense following a well-advised Presnell time out.  Boise State methodically erased the deficit over the next six minutes.  Melissa Rima buried the second of two three-pointers from the left corner with 2:54 to go as Boise State regained the lead 62-61.

Alice Coddington answered on the ensuing possession with a jumper to put Utah State out in front.  Those would be the last two Aggie points of the night.

Senior Tasha Harris led an eight-point Bronco run to finish the game with two jumpers and three-of-four free throws.  Boise State 's tenacity on the board proved to be the difference, outrebounding USU 13-5 down the stretch.

Harris finished with 15 points, four assists and a steal.  Rima emerged as a leader with 10 points and four rebounds while Janie Bos contributed 10 points and six boards.

Harris (1-4 on three-point attempts), is now one shy of Jackie Lee (142 from 2004-2008) for fifth place all-time at Boise State .

Jessica Van Hoogen, while having an off night with just two points, did get another steal and had an assist.  She now has 276 steals in her amazing Bronco career and is now 13 behind Cheron Moyle for the school record.  Van Hoogen is also four assists behind Missy Dallas (274 from 1984-1988) for seventh place in her career.

Amber White paced Utah State with 13 points while Lydia Whitehead had 11 points and Banna Diop had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Broncos are now 14-7 overall and 3-4 in the Western Athletic Conference and supplant the Aggies as the league's fourth-place team.  Utah State drops to 3-5 in league play.

Boise State advanced its record at Taco Bell Arena to 10-1 on the season.  If they can band together as road warriors (The Broncos are 3-6 this season), they can make a move down the stretch.  They will get a chance to prove what kind of team they are next weekend when they travel to Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State .

Louisiana Tech edged Idaho 74-71 in overtime last night to move to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
