Lucas Brings More Winners To Boise State

Boise State head soccer coach Steve Lucas beefed up the depth of this defending WAC Champion team with eight new recruits.

Defending Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Steve Lucas has brought his best recruiting class ever to Boise State . 

Eight additions to the Lady Bronco soccer team have signed letters of intent.  They will be joining the returning members of last year's WAC Champion team.

Alison Clarkson, Tvlyn Hughes, Kallie Heimann, Rebe Wolverton and Gabriella Garcia are midfielders.  Clarkson played in Auburn , Washington while Garcia is from Murrieta , California . 

Wolverton played central midfield at nationally-ranked Jesuit High School in Portland and also played cub soccer at FC Portland.  Wolverton was a four-year starter at Jesuit and was second team all-league her senior year in playing for the Oregon state champions.  "I decided to come to Boise State because I felt welcomed by the coaching staff and players when I visited.  It is a good atmosphere to play Division I soccer, and I loved the support the city gives to the university," Wolverton said.

Clarkson was all-league her junior and senior years and was voted the team Most Valuable Player this past season.  "I chose Boise State because the size of the city and location of the school fits my lifestyle," Clarkson said.  " Boise State 's soccer program is the best fit for me, and the academic offerings will help me achieve my long term goals."

 Garcia played under Coach Randy Dodge for the So Cal Blues Soccer Club and also is currently on the Puerto Rican National Team.  The Blues have finished second and third in the nation the last two years in the National Championships.  "I fell in love with the campus, town and weather of Boise .  Also, Boise State 's athletic program and coaches are so awesome and the team seemed very cool, nice and close," Garcia said.

Hughes played for Westview High School and THUSC Neon Soccer Club in Portland , Oregon .  She earned all-league and all-state honors last fall.  THUSC Neon is a four-time State Cup Champion and two-time Regional Quarterfinalist. 

Heimann is a teammate of Hughes and a member of the five-time State Cup Champion THUSC Neon team. 

Lucas signed a fullback from Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way , Washington .  Mackenzie Hickel starred in both track and soccer and was all-league her senior year.  Hickel owns the 300-meter hurdles record.  " Boise State has an amazing energy on campus that just fills you. When I arrived the first time, I knew I wanted to become a part of the Bronco Nation and feel that energy every day," Hickel said.

To provide depth at goalkeeper, Lucas signed Maddy McDevitt from Edmonds , Washington .  McDevitt is from Kings High School and also played for the Eastside Soccer Club.  McDevitt is a first team all-state player who helped Emerald City win three State Cup titles before moving to Eastside.  "I decided to go to Boise State because it has everything I am looking for in a school and soccer program. I love the campus and am excited to be a part of Bronco athletics," Maddy said.

Katy Oehring can play both fullback and midfield.  She is also a first team all-league player from Heritage High School in Colorado .  "I decided to go to Boise State because the area is great and it's so much like my home town in Colorado , "Oehring said.
