Lassen HS LB Darren Lee (Susanville, CA) signed with Boise State earlier this month and was somewhat of a 'surprise' commitment since many hadn't heard much about him. Lee caught the eye of the Bronco coaches during a summer camp in Boise and his recruitment took off from that point. "Darren went to their camp three years in a row and was the best player at their camp his junior and senior year," St. Jacques said. "They loved him at their camp," he added.

Lee was recruited by STs/LBs Coach Jeff Choate. "Coach Choate recruited him," he said. "He's a great guy and kind of funny." St. Jacques also happens to be a big fan of Head Coach Chris Petersen. Petersen has built the Boise State program on a foundation of character and integrity. That isn't going unnoticed by those in the high school coaching ranks. "I've been a Boise admirer for a long time," he stated. "My son played at UNR and I watched Boise kick their butt over the years. I love how they strategize and win games by coaching techniques. They want kids that will fit their program."

Darren and his parents took an official visit to Boise State in early December as they watched the Broncos capture yet another WAC Championship with a victory over New Mexico State. "He took his official visit in December," he said. "He loved it and I believe he committed on the visit. He got to see everything up close and Coach Petersen brought some of the guys over to his house for dinner."

Lee's parents enjoyed the visit to Boise and that's what really sealed the deal. "That was the selling point," he said in reference to Lee's parents. "I think they were hoping he'd commit after the summer and his dad was wishy-washy even though Darren wanted to commit. His parents were sold after the visit," St. Jacques added.

Darren is LDS and both sides have decided that it would be best for him to wait and enroll following his mission. This will allow him to keep his full eligibility. "He's going to take his mission and he'll be gone for two years," he said. "They decided that he'll wait and enroll when he gets back. That's when his eligibility clock will start."

St. Jacques believes Lee (6'2, 210, 4.56) fits the Bronco defense perfectly. "He's a perfect fit for them," he said. "It's rare that you find the total package and Darren is just that. He was on a whole different level than anyone else. He doesn't slow down when he hits. He's a high intensity guy with a motor that never stops."

Last season, Lee played on both sides of the ball. He racked up 1,400 yards rushing and 17 TDs as a fullback. He was a tackling machine at the LB position with 141 tackles.
