Hedrick Takes In Spring Practice In Boise

Central HS QB Grant Hedrick (Independence, OR) who signed with Boise State back in February, recently returned from a trip to Boise for spring practice. The visit allowed Grant to get some one-on-one time with the coaches. When will he arrive in Boise, and what are his plans for his first year on the Blue? He spoke to BroncoCountry.com about his visit to Boise and his future as a Bronco.

Central HS QB Grant Hedrick (Independence, OR) signed with Boise State back in February and the future Bronco just recently returned from a trip to Boise as he watched his future teammates in action during spring practice. "It was really good," he said in reference to the trip. "We left on Sunday and got back on Thursday," he added.

The visit allowed Grant (6'1, 185, 4.56) to get some one-on-one time with the coaches. "I got introduced and watched some film when I got there," he stated. "I sat through a lot of the meetings in the film room. It was different than anything I've ever done. Coach Harsin is big on me learning the playbook and we talked about how my running style will be in the playbook," he added.

The Boise State coaches plan on utilizing Hedrick's 4.5 speed by building a similar playbook to that of the Zabransky era. "Coach Pete talked to me about Zabransky and how they tried to utilize his speed," he said. "He said it'll be the same with me with a little more running. It was really great talking to him. He really loves all his players."

Receiving the Boise State playbook can be quite overwhelming for a new Bronco QB. Last year, Joe Southwick mentioned that it's all about learning the new terminology first along with the basics. Hedrick feels the same way. "The playbook isn't too bad. It was a little overwhelming at first," he said. "It all falls into place once you get the basics. We ran somewhat of the same offense as Boise. It's just a little more complex."

Watching the QBs in action during spring drills motivated Hedrick that much more. "The QBs were really focused and took it seriously," he said. "They were really getting the most out of their reps in practice. The way they prepared themselves is something I'll take away from that. Southwick looked good. He looks like he has a good grasp of the offense."

Grant plans to arrive in Boise immediately following graduation. "I think graduation is on June 4th or 5th," he said. "I know conditioning starts around June 1st. I want to head over there as quickly as possible following graduation," he added.
