Coaches Drop Boise State to 5th

Oh, what a difference a year makes. When Boise State dropped #3 TCU last year in the Fiesta Bowl, the nation was buzzing that the Broncos would contend for the "national title" in 2010. Many predicted Boise State would begin the season #2 in the polls, #3 at the lowest. Instead, the Broncos are #5 in the first preseason poll.

The nation's coaches have moved Boise State down a spot in the preseason college football poll.

Despite 22 starters returning from Coach Chris Petersen's team that was a perfect 14-0 last year that finished the season ranked #4, the Broncos slid to 5th in the first poll this year that was released today.

Alabama , which won a "championship game" that did not involve the Broncos last year, is the runaway #1 choice.  The Crimson Tide was chosen #1 by 55 of the 59 coaches and accumulated 1,469 points in the poll.  Ohio State , which was ranked behind Boise State last year, shot up to #2 with four first-place votes.

Florida , with 1,245 points, is 3rd, followed by Texas (1,240), Boise State , Virginia Tech (1,052), TCU (1,051), Oklahoma (1,035), Nebraska (1,001) and Iowa (952) to complete the top 10.   Oklahoma was not ranked in the Top 25 last year with an 8-5 record.

The #5 Broncos and #6 Hokies meet at FedEx Field in Washington D.C. to open the 2010 season.
