CHESTNUT HILL: NC State took on Boston College Saturday for the final home game of the season for the Eagles. The Seniors were thanked before the game for their contribution to the program over the past years. However, it was a tough night for them as they dropped their final home game 24-8. The Eagles move to 3-7 this year while NC State improved to 6-3. The Wolfpack controlled the game from start to finish. Boston College’s offense struggled all day led by Freshmen walk on quarterback John Fadule who threw three interceptions.
John Fadule got his second start at quarterback for BC this year and showed promise but had a tough time with his accuracy. Coach Adazzio spoke in his press conference after the game about his young team saying "We've got to keep grinding, keep building. That's what we're working on right now. We've got a young football team right now out there. We play like a young football team. The amazing thing is that we threw for 257 yards today.” The fact that Fadule threw for 257 yards is impressive but he also turned the ball over three times which didn’t help.
The Eagles also only ran for a total of 28 yards today. With running back Jon Hilliman out for an extended period, the Eagles run game is a little more predictable and a little less effective. Junior Running Back Tyler Rouse has struggled to get things done himself this year. The Eagles have been plagued with injuries and have been forced to give younger players more reps this year. Coach Adazzio commented on this by saying "Right now we just have too many young guys on the field to keep our consistency in any way, shape, or form. That's what we have to keep developing. We have to keep growing and we will. That's what it's all about.”
On the day the Eagles threw for 257 yards, rushed for 28 and turned the ball over four times. The offense has looked abysmal ever since quarter back Darius Wade went down against Florida State. The defense; after starting this year off incredibly strong, has struggled of late. They allowed a total of 351 yards this week and 212 of those were in the air. The defense does have a lot of pressure to perform when the offense is struggling like it is but, regardless they need to find their way back to old ways for Notre Dame in two weeks. The Eagles will rest next week as they have their bye after ten consecutive games.
The NC State Wolfpack came to play today. Led by senior quarterback Jacoby Brissett, the Wolfpack scored two touchdowns early to open up the game. Brissett played well on the day besides his one interception and he gave his team a chance to win. Head Coach Dave Doeren was very pleased with his teams performance. After not beating the Eagles in Boston in 10 years, his team came ready to play. He talked about his teams performance after the game and said "I challenged our team at the beginning of the season. I said there are two games we need to win to show progress. It was 12 years since we won at Wake Forest and 10 years since we won here in Boston. We were able to accomplish both of them this season. To me it's great progress by our football team. We are bowl eligible with three to play and our goal is to get better than we were a year ago. Last year we won seven in the regular season and so we have to keep fighting and swinging and see if we can get there.''
NC State travels to ACC opponent Florida State next week. The Wolfpack look to hand the 17th-ranked Seminoles their second straight loss.
