Biggest win of the Week: Maryland knocking off #1
The biggest question after the UNC/Maryland game was--- Where did this kind of performance by Maryland come from? After all, America hasn't seen a turnaround by a basketball team like this since Jimmy Chitwood turned Hickory High around in 1952. Well the answer to the above question is quite simple. Greivis Vasquez let the game come to him instead of forcing bad shots. Check out some of Vasquez's shooting performances when Maryland has lost:
2-for-14 vs. VT
5-for-16 vs. Ohio
4-for-13 vs. Virginia Comm.
4-for-14 vs. Missouri
Not only was the PG shooting poorly in those games, but he was taking quite a few shots for someone having a bad night. Against UNC, Vasquez stopped forcing so many bad shots and got the ball into the hands of James Gist. The result was Gist pouring in 22 points and Vasquez registering 11 assists to rejuvenate Maryland's season.
Kudos also has to go to Gary Williams who had his team focused like I've never seen from them all season. The coach knows how to get his team ready to play the best. It was Williams' 7th time in his career that he beat a number one ranked team.
Early on in the game it looked like Duke might not have enough big bodies to contain Clemson's powerful front court of Trevor Booker (15 pts, 10 rebounds) and James Mays (8 pts, 6 rebounds). By the end of the game we found out that really didn't matter. Duke put so much relentless pressure on Clemson's guards, that the Tigers really had a hard time getting their offense in any sort of rhythm. Duke forced Clemson into an astonishing 20 turnovers on the night.
The score doesn't indicate how close this game really was, because it was actually a 1-point game with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the contest. However, the Blue Devils went on one of their patented runs, and outscored Clemson 21-5 in a 5 minute stretch. This game showed that Duke might be able to get by alright in the long run without a dominating big man, if they're able to play stifling defense for a full 40 minutes every night.
Worst loss of the Week: Virginia losing to Virginia Tech
This loss looks a little less embarrassing after the Cavs' knocked off BC the following game, but it was a bitter loss to take for Virginia. Sean Singletary did his part by pouring in 34, but the rest of his team barely outscored him by only adding an additional 35 points…. Yikes! This won't be the last time this season that Virginia loses a game because Singletary gets no help from his teammates.
Runner-up: Miami getting thumped by BC 76-66
Andy Katz from ESPN reported that after the game Miami PG Jack McClinton admitted that the ‘Canes came out nonchalant.
Are you serious Miami? Your team was selected to finish dead last in the ACC in preseason and you aren't going to give your all on the road? Very, very weak.

Game of the Week: UNC @ Miami 1/23
There are two ways you can look at this game from Miami's point of view. In one way you can say that UNC is coming off of a loss so they're vulnerable. Or on the flip side you can say that the Tar Heels are angry about losing and want to take it out on someone. I'm going to say it's the latter…. Watch out Miami
Runner-Up: Duke @ Maryland 1/27
Maryland will have a week off to soak in their victory over UNC until they host the 2nd best team in the ACC. Even if Maryland doesn't win this game should be a good indication as to whether or not the UNC win was a fluke or not.
Look for the Blue Devils to try and make Greivis Vasquez speed up the pace of the game to force him into making bad decisions.
