Eagles Land Fourth Verbal

Boston College landed their fourth commitment for the 2010 recruiting class when BB&N's Jimmy McCaffrey committed to Coach Spaziani on Monday. The 5'11" Massachusetts prospect received an offer on Friday and decided to end his recruitment by committing to the Eagles.

For many Boston College fans, landing local talent is considered critical to the success of the football program. Keeping talent home not only maintains the identity of the program; it builds ties to the local college fans, who always enjoy cheering for local players.

Landing one of the top players in the state, BC took a big step in protecting the home turf.

"I went over to BC this morning and talked with Coach Spaziani and the coaching staff and told them that is what I wanted to do. They offered on Friday and I made my decision over the weekend."

Despite the quick decision, it was not as easy as it would appear.

"I really loved Stanford and Boston College. I'd say both were even for me from the start. But, I really liked BC and built up such a good relationship with the coaching staff, it put them on top.

"When they offered me, I just knew that it was the place for me and the place where I knew I could become my best. Not to take anything away from the other schools, but BC was the place I wanted to be at from the beginning."

Part of the attraction was location. The chance to play in front of family and friends was a big consideration.

"I've seen a bunch of their games. There is nothing better than playing for your hometown team. To have a chance to play in front of your friends and family is just a great opportunity. My whole family is really into football. They come to all of my games now. So, it will be great to have them there for all my games in college.

"Going away to college has some attraction, but not having family there is a problem. That was the thing with Stanford. It is so far away it would have been tough for my parents to see me. Plus, commuting back and forth would be tough. I just did not think that was something I wanted to do."

Listed as a receiver by Scout, BC has yet to decided where they will use McCaffrey.

"They have not said anything definite. They say nothing is written in stone, but I get the sense they want me at corner. I don't have a preference as far as offense and defense. I really like special teams. I want to do that for sure. I return kicks now and I want to do that in college."

Now that the recruiting process has come to an end, Jimmy can get back to focusing on improving his game and getting ready for next season.

"Right now I'm going to work out five days a week at this place called Athletic Evolution. It is training facility for speed in Woburn Mass. I'm going to do that early in the morning so I can get a summer job. Camp starts in the middle of August. I'll go to the BC summer camp for one or two days. "
