James White Tours The Northeast

St. Thomas Aquinas tailback James White is quickly becoming a household name in recruiting circles. The talented back is drawing interest from schools around the country. In turn, he has started traveling around the country visiting colleges. James and his family just returned from a tour of schools in the Northeast.

The first big trip of the summer is out of the way. James White and his family made a tour of the Northeast, visiting colleges that have offered him a scholarship.

"I just got back today. We went to Rutgers, Boston College, Connecticut and Syracuse. It was a good trip. I enjoyed it a lot."

Impressions of each school:

Syracuse: "It was real nice. There are two players from my school up there, Dorian Graham and Kevin Scott. They showed me around, showed me the ropes. It was very nice. The coaches told me if I wanted to be a pioneer and be a part of rebuilding the program, it is the place to be. It is definitely a program with a lot of tradition and they should be on the rise. "

Boston College: "It was very nice. It is a college town and it is a beautiful campus. All the coaches were down to earth. I got to see the whole campus and talk with all of the coaches. It is a Catholic school just like my school. So, it was very nice atmosphere. I liked it a lot."

Rutgers: "It was real nice. It was different than I thought. They have very nice facilities. They are adding 12,000 seats to the stadium. Coach Schiano is very down to earth and he does a good job keeping his players on the straight and narrow. It was a great place.

Connecticut: "I did get to see as much stuff because the coaches are all working half days now. I did not see all of it. I did see the athletic facilities and they are all top notch. They have some weight training stuff that I have never seen in my life. "

Traveling up from Florida to visit four schools in four states is a long trip, but it is not the last trip of the summer. James and his family also plan to hit the Carolinas and Virginia to visit colleges.

"Next week, this Friday, we head up to the Carolinas and Virginia to see schools. I'm going to Wake Forest, North Carolina, Duke and NC State and then Virginia. After that, my parents are thinking about a trip to LSU, but I'm not sure."

It may seem like he is packing in a lot in a short time, but there is a reason for it.

"Football practice has started. It started on Monday. So, getting time to go on trips is getting a little harder. The plan is to get all of it done by the end of June. Then, I'll sit down and start thinking about all the schools I saw and talk it over with my parents. In the fall I hope to get things narrowed down so more."

So far, James has been to Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Florida, Boston College, Syracuse, Rutgers and Connecticut. Once he finishes visiting schools this month, it is back to focusing on football and getting ready for the fall season. No time table has been set and he expects to take his official visits in the fall.
