Alli Goes Big Time

Stephen Alli was an unknown until recently. His performance at a local combine got the recruiting world buzzing and that lead to a significant uptick in recruiting interest from major colleges. Local colleges jumped in first, but interest from programs around the country soon followed. Now he sits with close to a dozen offers.

A name that has suddenly become very popular in New England recruiting circles is Stephen Alli. The Toronto native is in prep school at Proctor Academy in New Hampshire and has burst on the scene after a stellar workout at a local combine.

"I'm at Proctor Academy in New Hampshire. I live in Toronto, but I go to prep school in New Hampshire. I'm a wide receiver. I was the guy at the Connecticut combine who ran the 4.38. I'm 6'6" 210 and I ran a forty at 4.38. So, schools are looking at me as a receiver."

At 6'6" and 210 pounds, most would assume Stephen Alli is a tight end at the next level. With sub-4.4 speed, schools are looking at him as a big time wide receiver in college. Combined with the agility of a basketball player, he projects to be a special player at the next level.

"Everyone is recruiting me as a wide receiver. That's the position I play now and I want to play receiver in college."

A month ago he had no offers from colleges, now the list has grown to over a dozen, including some of the biggest names in college football.

"I have offers from Connecticut, Boston College, Florida, Tennessee, Stanford, Rutgers and some other schools I cannot recall right now. I'm looking for the best school that will give me an opportunity to play big time football and I have a lot of options now."

With the sudden spike in interest, Stephen has been busy seeing colleges that have offered.

"I'm just coming back from the Florida camp and then I'm going out to Stanford. I don't think I have the time to go anywhere else this summer. AAU basketball starts and I'm going to be tied up with that most of the summer."

A decision could come early as one school has jumped to the front of the line for his services.

"I'm thinking I'm going to make a decision pretty soon. Florida is the school I'm looking at the most right now. I loved the camp and loved the campus. It is a place where I can play for national championships and get a great education. "

Stephen was careful to say he is not ready to make a decision. He has the trip to Stanford and will take some time to think things over during the summer.

I'm not sure when I will make a decision, but when it comes to me I'll make the call. I'd like to decide soon. I'm not ready just yet, but I think it will be within the next couple of weeks. But, things could change and maybe I wait a little longer."
