Durkin, 6-foot-4, 225-pounds, is coming off an impressive season at Youngstown Ursuline, and college recruiters have certainly taken notice.
"I have offers from Toledo, Bowling Green, Illinois, Akron and Michigan State," Durkin stated. "I'm hearing from schools like Northwestern, Nebraska, Michigan, Maryland, Duke, Kentucky and West Virginia. I visited Northwestern for a game and toured the campus after my season ended. I also spoke to their academic advisors about their program."
"I am going to be at Michigan State the end of February, and I'm going to visit Cincinnati tomorrow," he added. "Illinois is high on my list and I have a relationship with the coaching staff. I love the Big Ten and can see myself playing in the conference. The Michigan State offer came out of nowhere and it really caught me by surprise. I spoke with the coaches the other day, and I'm definitely impressed with their program. I was on top of the world after hearing I was offered by Coach (Mark) Dantonio."
Although Durkin is coming off an impressive season, he is not resting on his laurels and is working to get better.
"My junior year went well and I think I improved a lot from my sophomore year," he explained. "I improved as a runner and also with my decision making. I believe I made a big jump from my sophomore season, and I really helped my team a lot more."
"I want to improve my vision when running the football, and I need to get better at staying in the pocket and not pulling the ball down to run too soon," he continued. "I think my strength is that I'm a really good passer, but I'm also a power-running quarterback. I'm a Pro-style quarterback that can also run over a linebacker."
FOXSportsNext will continue to track Durkin's recruitment over the coming year and will update his situation as warranted.
