Butler Targets, Commits on All-State Team

Class of 2013 Butler walk-ons, Michael Volovic and Steven Bennett, as well as 2014 targets Trevon Bluiett and Trey Lyles earned All-State honors this week.

Class of 2013 walk-ons Michael Volovic, Carmel (IN) High School, and Steven Bennett, New Castle Chrysler (IN) High School, were both selected to the All-State team earlier this week.

Volovic was selected to the First Team. As the point guard for the #1 ranked team in the State, he helped lead the team to a 25-2 record and the Class 4A State Championship. He averaged 14 points and 5 assists per game.

Carmel defeated Indianapolis Cathedral 57-53 in the Class 4A Championship Game.

Bennett, another member of the Class of 2013, was selected to the Honorable Mention list.

The other members of the First Team included Zak Irvin (Hamilton Southeastern), Trevon Bluiett (Park Tudor), Trey Lyles (Arsenal Tech), and Demetrius Jackson (Mishawaka Marian).

At one point Butler has been involved in the recruitment of each of those players.

Irvin received the most votes for the All-State voted on by the Associated Press. He averaged 24.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Butler was a finalist for Irvin, who ended up committing to Michigan.

Butler was also involved with McDonald's All-American Demetrius Jackson, a Notre Dame commit.

Brad Stevens and the coaching staff are actively recruiting both Bluiett and Lyles for the Class of 2014.

Butler has also been linked to a large number of the High Honorable and Honorable Mention members, including Jaylon Brown (Fishers), Jalen Coleman (Cathedral), Eron Gordon (North Central), and Sean Sellers (Greensburg).
