Rector Plans Visit, Names Top Schools

Class of 2013 guard Shane Rector became a sought after player just days after decommitting from Rutgers. Now he has six schools at the top of his list, with a visit this weekend on the horizon.

Shane Rector, South Kent (CT) School, has seen his recruitment blow up in the last few weeks. After the dismissal of Coach Mike Rice from Rutgers, Rector decided to reconsider his commitment.

After a season in which he averaged 18 points and 6 assists, and with the regular signing period spanning from April 17-May 15, coaches from around the country began to pursue Rector.

With his ability to create shots for not only himself, but also others, Rector received offers from Butler, Texas A&M, Missouri, Virginia Tech, and Minnesota over the first few days of being decommitted.

Now those schools stand atop his list.

"They were the first couple schools to contact me," Rector explained to IDP. "They sounded like they had the best to offer me, from what they have told me."

The 6-foot 1 combo guard must quickly decide which school he will be attending next fall.

"I'm looking for a place where I will be comfortable at and where I have a role that I like on the team."

His search begins this Friday when he takes a trip to Missouri.

"I've been talking to the head coach (Frank Haith) and Coach Fuller," Rector said. "They have explained a lot to me. I am going to see the campus, see how I like the environment and everything."

While Rector has only been able to schedule his visit to Missouri, he may not be done after that trip.

"I'm definitely going to take some, I just haven't planned the next one yet," Rector said.

Butler head coach Brad Stevens has been in contact with Rector and offered quickly after his decommitment.

"They contacted and offered me about three days after I decommitted," Rector said. "I know they have been to two Final Fours. They have a really good head coach."

While Rector has decommitted from Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights still have an opportunity to keep him.

"They are still on my list," Rector explained. "I just have to talk to the head coach and see what his plans are for me. Where I would fit into what he wants to do. I know he was an assistant for the Lakers and I know he likes to run the Princeton offense. That's about it."
