Recruiting Buzz: Offers to Martin, Patterson

After the first week of AAU tournaments in the crucial July evaluation period, Butler extended a pair of offers to Class of 2014 prospects Kelan Martin and Avery Patterson. They also checked in with a couple prospects. We talk about it all in the latest recruiting buzz.

Rising Guard Patterson Gets Offer from Butler

Butler struggled at times last season finding a ball handler capable of dealing with pressure defense. They found one in the Class of 2013 in Rene Castro, but now the staff is on a mission to find another in the Class of 2014.

The Bulldogs offered Avery Patterson, Wheeler (GA) High School, after watching him at Peach State last weekend while playing with the Game Elite.

Patterson was impressive in Aiken, SC and has drawn offers from a number of programs in the last few days including Boston College, St. Louis, Kansas State, UCF, and Xavier.

The 3-star point guard sets himself apart from the rest with his smooth jump shot, distribution, defensive prowess and overall effort on both ends of the court.

Butler Offers Kelan Martin After Adidas

Indiana Elite foward Kelan Martin recently took part in the Adidas Invitational where he showed a varied offensive arsenal that impressed a number of coaches in attendance.

The 3-star forward saw his play pay off by picking up offers from Xavier, Texas Tech, and St. Louis on Sunday and finally an offer from Butler on Tuesday.

Martin consistently says that Butler is recruiting him the hardest and the Bulldogs seem to have made quite the impression on the Kentucky forward.

It looks like Butler is in the driver's seat at the moment and will look to close the deal for Martin.

Miller Checks in with Tejada

Speaking of point guard targets in the Class of 2014, Butler recently checked-in with Pompano Beach, FL guard Lance Tejada.

After the coaching change at Butler, Tejada took a wait-and-see approach to where Butler stands in his recruitment. Spending much of his time talking with Brad Stevens, the 2014 point guard hadn't had a chance to talk with Coach Miller, until recently.

"Coach Miler has contacted me and watched me play," Tejada said. "He said he liked what he saw."

Tejada confirmed that Butler is still in his top 7 consisting of Alabama, Murray State, Miami (FL), Butler, Florida State, Connecticut, and Texas A&M.

He has currently planned visits to Murray State and Alabama, but said he also plans to visit Butler sometime in the future as well.
