Jones Out for 2013-14 Season

Junior Roosevelt Jones fell awkwardly on his wrist during the opening minutes of the first game in Australia against the Norths Bears. After an MRI yesterday and the results this morning, Jones will miss the entire 2013-14 season.

After a great experience and team building trip to Australia, the Bulldogs had bad news come just days after their return to the United States.

Junior Roosevelt Jones will miss the entire 2013-14 season with an injury to his wrist.

Butler released a statement from head athletic trainer Ryan Galloy.

"Roosevelt suffered an injury that resulted in ligament damage to his left wrist, and he'll undergo season-ending surgery. His prognosis is good and he's expected to make a full recovery for next season."

Jones fell awkwardly on his wrist during the opening minutes of the game against the Norths Bears and left the game. He didn't return to the court for the rest of the trip for the Bulldogs. They finished the trip 2-2.

The 6-foot 4 wing averaged 10.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists during his sophomore season. He was the leading scorer, assist man, and rebounder coming back for the Bulldogs this seasons. He will certainly be missed by first year head coach Brandon Miller.

"First and foremost, our thoughts are with Roosevelt," stated Butler head coach Brandon Miller in the official press release. "He has worked very hard to position himself to have a terrific junior hear. Having said that, Roosevelt is a tough-minded, determined young man, and I am confident he will return from this adversity an even better player and person. Despite not playing, Roosevelt will continue to have an impact in leading this team as we move forward."

Butler now moves forward without Jones' ability to handle the ball and ability to score driving to the basket through contact. He was also going to be trusted with some of the ball handling due to the lack of experience at the point guard position. The Bulldogs will now certainly rely on Alex Barlow, Jackson Aldridge, and true freshman Rene Castro.

The biggest factor for Butler will be entering the Big East without Jones' tenacious defense. He has the ability to guard so many different types of wing players and was going to be essential heading into the talented Big East.

Jones will redshirt in 2013-14 and have two season of eligibility remaining.
