Smits Liking All His Suitors

2015 center Derrik Smits had an active spring picking up two offers from Xavier and Butler, but had a slight set back with an injury during AAU basketball.

Derrik Smits attended Butler's Elite Camp this spring and walked away with an offer from Butler. A few weeks after the offer from Butler, he picked up an offer from Xavier.

Smits has the two offers from Butler and Xavier, but also interest from Boston College, Indiana, Ball State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Purdue, and a few others.

The Zionsville (IN) High School center visited Xavier, Butler, and Tennessee this spring and he says he still is enjoying the recruiting process.

"None are really sticking out right now," Smits said. "I have liked them all so far."

With Butler in Australia, Smits hasn't heard recently from the Butler staff, but has spoken with Coach Miller a few times since being hired as Butler head coach.

"I spoke with him after he got the job, but they aren't really recruiting me hard right now during the break," Smits said. "We just talk about Butler and how they still feel about me."

Smits was impressive this summer for Spiece Indy Heat 15, despite suffering a nagging injury. He recovered and is now looking forward to his junior year at Zionsville.

With zero commitments in the class of 2015, Smits is a priority. Butler offered in early June and has put a focus on not allowing Smits to leave the Indianapolis area. We'll continue to track Butler's recruitment of Smits as the high school season approaches.
