Smits Visits Clemson

2015 7-foot center Derrik Smits took an unofficial visit to Clemson this past weekend and picked up another offer

Indianapolis (IN) - After picking up offers from Xavier and Butler earlier this summer, 2015 center Derrik Smits continues to grab attention from new schools.

The nearly 7-foot center from Zionsville (IN) High School hosted a number of schools during the open period a couple of weeks ago including Notre Dame, Butler, Xavier, and Clemson. After a good visit from the Tigers coaching staff, Smits decided to take an unofficial visit to South Carolina this past weekend.

"I went down on Friday and they showed me the campus and the football stadium," Smits told InsideTheDawgPound. "Then worked out on Saturday before the game. Then we went to the football game and left during the game."

While on his visit to Clemson, Smits was able to sit down with a couple of the coaches for the Tigers including coach Winiecki and head coach Brad Brownell. Coach Winiecki was the coach that traveled to Zionsville to meet with Smits and urged him to visit the Tigers.

After a good workout at Clemson, Smits and his family sat down with the coaching staff and they informed him of the good news.

"We were talking during lunch, after my workout (and they offered)," Smits said. "I really enjoyed it."

Clemson joins Butler and Xavier as offering the rising junior center. Smits also has interest from Notre Dame, Ball State, Michigan, Indiana, Tennessee, Boston College, and a few others.

Smits has had a busy year with visits, but now he is starting to prepare himself for his junior season. He isn't sure where he will visit next, but would like to take a few visits during the fall.
