Butler Makes Move with Johnson

Butler continues its search for a point guard in the class of 2014 by offering Zach Johnson, Miami (FL) Norland

Indianapolis - Butler has missed on a few point guards in the class of 2014, but that has not deterred them from continuing their pursuit. A new point guard has surfaced on their radar in Zach Johnson.

Johnson, originally in the class of 2014, had decided to switch to the class of 2015 earlier in the year, but now is looking to potentially return to his original class. That change has brought increased interest as the point guard market in 2014 has increased demand, but few high quality players remaining.

The Miami (FL) Norland guard holds offers from Butler, Tennessee, Rhode Island, Georgia Southern, Wright State, Murray State, LaSalle, Wyoming, and Florida Gulf Coast. He also has been gaining interest from a few other schools including South Florida.

Johnson drew attention this summer at a number of AAU events for his ability to get to the rim. He uses his strength and athleticism to drive and score, but continues his development of his jump shot. This summer Johnson was able to show those consistently, which is why his stock rose considerably.

Johnson helped lead Norland to a 26-5 record last season and its second consecutive Florida 6A State title. The Vikings will look for their third consecutive title this fall.

Johnson recently hosted coaches from LaSalle for an in-home visit and will host Rhode Island soon as well. He will look to set up visits as the season goes on.

The profile of a conference isn't extremely important to Johnson. He doesn't care if it is considered a high-major or mid-major, he just wants to feel comfortable and improve his skills.

Butler has show some interest in other point guards in the class of 2014 including devonte graham (MA), who is currently bound to his Appalachian State NLI.
