INDIANAPOLIS (IN) - The 2013-14 regular season gets started tonight at Hinkle Fieldhouse as the Butler Bulldogs are set to host the Lamar Cardinals.
The Cardinals, coached by Pat Knight, are coming off of a disappointing 3-28 campaign. Knight, the former coach at Texas Tech and the son of Indiana legend Bob Knight, looks to turn the Cardinals around.
Lamar features three newcomers in the starting lineup and return their second leading scorer, Rhon Mitchell, from a season ago. Mitchell is the returning leader for Lamar in points and rebounds respectively having averaged 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds.
Butler is led for the first time by head coach Brandon Miller. The Bulldogs won both of their exhibition games in decisive fashion over DePauw and Nova Southeastern.
The Bulldogs enter the 2013-14 season without Roosevelt Jones, who tore ligaments in his wrist during the team trip to Australia this summer. Butler looks for others to step up in his place including freshman Elijah Brown and sophomore Devontae Morgan.
Brown is coming off of two explosive games in the pre-season and he looks to come off the bench as a scoring, energetic 6th man.
