Butler looked great in the first half but struggled coming down the stretch. They scored 42 points in the 1st half, but just 26 in the 2nd.
The Bulldogs shot 23/52 (44.2%) overall from the field including 6/17 (35.3%) from three. They shot 9/29 (31%) in the 2nd half against the Musketeers.
Kameron Woods finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds.
The other starters Alex Barlow and Erik Fromm finished with 5 and 9 points respectively.
Elijah Brown and Andrew Chrabascz had solid games off the bench for Butler. Brown scored 10 points (2/6 3PT) and Chrabascz scored 9 points and collected 5 rebounds.
Butler committed 15 turnovers, which led to 14 Xavier points and had 9 offensive rebounds.
Xavier had its way with Butler in the 2nd half. The Musketeers shot 14/25 (56%) in the 2nd half including 2/4 (50%) from three.
Overall Xavier was 29/55 (50.9%) from the field and 3/9 (33.3%) from three. The Musketeers were also effective from the free throw line connecting on 20/24 (83.3%) of their free throws.
Semaj Christon scored a game-high 20 points on 7/14 shooting.
Three others were in double figures for Xavier. Matt Stainbrook scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Justin Martin scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Dee Davis scored 12 points (4/6 FG) all in the 2nd half.
Xavier outscored Butler 36-24 in the paint and 14-4 off of turnovers.
The Musketeers outscored Butler 42-26 in the 2nd half.
Xavier had just two points off the bench.
Butler had a chance to win their first Big East game on the road in Cincinnati. In the 2nd half, the offense came to a sputtering stop late in the 2nd half and couldn't stop anyone defensively allowing Xavier to shoot over 50% for the game.
The Bulldogs didn't make good enough decisions or plays to win the game. They lost the turnover margin 15-8 and lost the points-off-turnover margin 14-4.
Butler will need to play more of a complete game to win on the road in the Big East.
