INDIANAPOLIS (IN) - InsidetheDawgPound takes a look back at what we learned during Butler's season-opening win over Maine 99-57.

Freshmen will make an impact...

The Bulldogs welcomed six newcomers to the roster this season after multiple transfers including three freshman in the off-season. With those departures, Butler needs their newcomers to have an impact. On Saturday night, the freshman trio of Tyler Wideman, Kelan Martin, and Jackson Davis each had an impact on the game. Wideman and Martin saw extensive minutes throughout the game, while Davis played during the final minutes. Martin finished with 12 points on 5/10 shooting in 20 minutes, Wideman added 8 points on 4/4 shooting in 14 minutes, while Davis scored 2 points in 3 minutes. These freshman will have a big impact on Butler's season before all is said and done.

Jones will make 1st Team All-Big East run...

Roosevelt Jones looked like he was happy to be back on the Hinkle Fieldhouse floor. The unorthodox redshirt-junior showed how he can affected the game on both ends of the floor. Defensively Jones played solid defense man-to-man and was also able to help the spacing, while offensively Jones handled the ball well, delivered passes on-time, and was able to do a little scoring of his own. He finished with 14 points, 9 assists (career-high), 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. If Jones continues to play like that he will find himself on the All-Big East 1st team at the end of the season.
