Sooners Beat Bulldogs at Atlantis

Butler (4-1) fell to Oklahoma (4-1) 59-46 in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Nassau (Bahamas) - Butler's season opening winning streak has come to an end. The Bulldogs lost to Oklahoma (4-1) in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis 59-46.

It was a struggle offensively for Butler (4-1) especially early in the 1st half. Oklahoma started the game on a 24-8 run, a gap that Butler couldn't overcome, while the Bulldogs were shooting below 35%.

Butler converted on just 14/59 (23.7%) of its field goals including 4/23 (17.4%) from the 3-point line.

While Butler was struggling from the field, the Sooners started off red hot. While they cooled down during the second half, Oklahoma still finished 20/44 (45.5%) from the field.

The Sooners were led by junior guard Isaiah Cousins who scored a game-high 13 points, while junior forward Ryan Spangler added 4 points and 10 rebounds.

Butler was led by junior Kellen Dunham with a game-high 17 points on 5/16 shooting (2/6 3PT). He also grabbed 5 rebounds.

Outside of Dunham, many of Butler's offensive weapons struggled to convert.

Sophomore forward Andrew Chrabascz finished with 9 points on 3/7 shooting, but failed to convert on any of his attempts from 3-point range (0/3 3PT) and finished 3/6 from the free throw line.

Roosevelt Jones never looked comfortable against the Sooners. The redshirt junior scored just 4 points (2/9 FG) and collected 6 rebounds. He had just 2 assists on the day, despite averaging a team-high 7 per game entering the contest.

Freshman Kelan Martin, fresh off a 17 point performance against North Carolina, finished with just 3 points (1/8 FG) in 16 minutes, while seniors Kameron Woods and Alex Barlow finished with just 4 and 3 points respectively.

Butler players weren't the only ones to struggle offensively. Oklahoma's leading scorer Buddy Hield was off his game. The native of the Bahamas scored just 5 points (2/10 FG) in 33 minutes.

It was over when...Oklahoma extended its lead to 56-42 after two free throws by Jordan Woodard with just 3:05 left to play in the game.

NOTES: Junior Austin Etherington finished with 6 points and 3 rebounds, but finished just 1/5 3PT in 19 minutes...Tyler Wideman was held scoreless in 8 minutes...Oklahoma out rebounded Butler 41-32, although the Bulldogs won the offensive rebounding contest 13-5...Oklahoma finished 17/22 (77.3%) from the FT line, while Butler was 14/21 (66.7%)...Oklahoma committed 16 turnovers, while Butler had just 10...Butler finishes the Battle 4 Atlantis against another Big East opponent Georgetown tomorrow at 2PM EST on ESPN.
