Tale of the Tape

A year after Doug McDermott led the BlueJays to a 14-4 finish in the Big East, the BlueJays are winless at 0-6. Creighton is coming off of 7 straight loss including their most recent to Providence 74-65. Junior guard James Milliken led the Jays in scoring at 22 points, while their bench added 36 points. Senior guard Austin Chatman leads Creighton in scoring at 11.2 points per game, while sophomore Isaiah Zeiden adds 10 points per game, while shooting 39.6% from 3-point range. Greg McDermott and Creighton had started 8-2 before winning just 1 of their last 9 games.

After moving to 3-2 in the Big East, Butler dropped a heartbreaking loss to Georgetown on the road in Washington, D.C. 61-59. The Bulldogs led for much of the game, but couldn't put the game away down the stretch. The Bulldogs were led by redshirt-junior Roosevelt Jones who scored a game-high 28 points on 12/19 shooting. Kellen Dunham added 13 points (all in the 1st half). Dunham leads the Bulldogs in scoring this season at 16.6 points per game, while Jones is 2nd in scoring (13.1), 2nd in rebounding (5.7), and 1st in assists (3.7). First year head coach Chris Holtmann has the Bulldogs playing with heart and toughness as they continue to build their tournament resume. Butler is currently 17th in the RPI.

Player to Watch

Roosevelt Jones - What a season in Big East play Jones is having. The redshirt junior is making a case for 1st team All-Big East and potentially an outside chance at Big East Player of the Year. While Jones started the season slowly, he is now averaging 13.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on the season. Jones had 28 points during the last game against an athletic Georgetown. What will he do for an encore against winless in the Big East Creighton?

Kellen Dunham - While Dunham was hot to start the game against the Hoyas, he failed to score in the 2nd half. He continues to lead the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game, while shooting 45.8% from 3-point range. Dunham is having a great junior season and he continues to progress as an all around player. Now it is time for him to lead Butler down the stretch in a Big East race.

Will Artino - While the 6-foot-11 senior has failed to have an outstanding season, he will be a threat in the post and on the offensive glass for the Jays. He leads Creighton in rebounding at 4.7 rebounds per game and will give Woods, Wideman, and Chrabascz something to think about defensively.

Austin Chatman - Chatman is the BlueJays' go-to scorer this season. He is leading the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game as well as assists at 4.2 per game. One area where Chatman may succeed is at the free throw line. The senior for Texas will have a tough matchup against Alex Barlow, however Barlow tends to get in foul trouble and may get to the line easily where he connects at 83%.

Notable Stats

14 of 19 - Butler has out-rebounded teams this season in 14 of 19 games.
