INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - As the 2014-15 season moves into February schools are focusing on their run to the post season as well as finishing the class of 2015 well. Butler currently has two signees in the class of 2015, including wing Sean McDermott.
The 6-foot-5, 170-pound senior from Pendleton Heights (IN) High School has had a really good senior season leading the Arabians to a 12-4 record. InsidetheDawgPound caught up with McDermott before his game against Pike (IN) High School.
"(We have) some really tough games coming up that I will need to step up in and be a leader," McDermott told InsidetheDawgPound. "I think here recently I have become more of a threat on the catch, which is getting defenders off balance and allowing me to get to the free throw line more often. I obviously need to become more explosive and stronger, which will be a huge focus in the off season. Haven't shot as well as I would like this year, just need to fix some little things like holding my follow through. Still quite a bit of season left to improve."
McDermott is currently averaging 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game this season for Pendleton Heights.
While McDermott and his high school team are having success this season, the senior wing has taken notice of his future program Butler and their progression as well.
"I think they are playing very well," McDermott said. "They always compete and every game is a fight. The players understand what it takes to win."
McDermott looks forward to becoming a Bulldog and playing for head coach Chris Holtmann next season at Butler.
"I can't wait to be a part of it."
McDermott and center Nate Fowler (OH) are the two members of the class of 2015 for Butler who looks to sign up to three more in the late signing period.
