No.22 Butler Closes Out DePaul

Butler (18-6, 8-3) held off charging DePaul (12-13, 6-6) at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Butler extended its winning streak to 5 games by beating DePaul 83-73 and moved to just a half game back in the Big East standings.

The 22nd ranked Bulldogs almost had a flashback to last season, when they blew an 11 point second half lead at Hinkle Fieldhouse to DePaul and eventually lost the game in double overtime.

What a difference a year makes as the Bulldogs continually make winning plays down the stretch of games. Butler responded to the Blue Demons run and closed them out.

Butler was led by junior guard Kellen Dunham who scored 24 points (6/12 FG) which were fueled by going 4/9 from the 3-point line and 8/8 from the free throw line.

Fellow junior Roosevelt Jones added 20 points (7/11 FG), while sophomore Andrew Chrabascz, who has averaged over 18 points per game in the last 4 games, scored 16 points on 6/8 shooting.

After leading by as many as 20 points in the opening half, Butler relinquished most of their lead as DePaul found scoring lanes and found a way to knock down a few threes.

DePaul was led by senior forward Jamee Crockett who finished with 14 points, while junior forward Myke Henry added 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Over DePaul finished 23/55 (41.8%) from the field including 9/24 (37.5%) from 3-point range.

The game featured 44 fouls and 53 free throw attempts. The Bulldogs held the advantage from the line finishing 21/30 (70%), while DePaul shot 18/23 (78.3%).

Butler clamped down on DePaul defensively in the 1st half, the Blue Demons struggled to get open shots and trailed 40-27 at intermission.

The Blue Demon's leading scorer Billy Garrett Jr. was held to just 6 points on 1/6 shooting.

NOTES: Dunham moved into 21st on the all-time scoring list at Butler...Alex Barlow finished with 8 points, all scored in the 2n half. He also had 8 assists...Kameron Woods finished with 7 points and 8 rebounds...Austin Etherington scored 3 points and grabbed 3 rebound sin 8 minutes...Freshman Kelan Martin (4 points, 3 rebounds) and Jackson Davis (1 rebound) each notched stats in the box score...Butler fell to #18 in the RPI after the win.
