Tale of the Tape
DePaul enters the game against Butler having lost 5 straight and 8 of their past 9 games including their most recent defeat at the hands of Creighton 75-62. The Blue Demons were led by senior forward Forrest Robinson with 14 points of the bench (6/7 FG), while Jamee Crockett added 13 points (5/11 FG). Sophomore Billy Garrett Jr. continues to lead DePaul in scoring (12.9) and assists (3.9) on the season, while Myke Henry adds 12.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. After a promising start to the season, Oliver Purnell and DePaul have struggled in recent weeks but remain in the middle of the Big East at the moment. If the Blue Demons continue to drop games, they may find themselves as the 10-seed and last place team in the conference tournament.
Butler responded after a difficult loss to Xavier on the road. The Bulldogs defeated Marquette 73-52 on Wednesday night. Butler was led by junior Kellen Dunham with 22 points, while senior Kameron Woods added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Dunham continues to lead the Bulldogs in scoring on the season at 16.8 points per game, while Roosevelt Jones adds 12.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and a team-best 3.7 assists per game. Butler has responded after losing sophomore Andrew Chrabascz for 2-4 weeks with an injury to his right hand during the loss to Villanova just 2 weeks ago. While he continues to miss time, freshman Tyler Wideman has stepped up in his place. The freshman had his best game as a Bulldog against the Golden Eagles. He scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 26 minutes. First year head coach Chris Holtmann has done a tremendous job with Butler this season and deserves Coach of the Year in the Big East as well as consideration for National Coach of the Year. Butler is currently ranked 23rd and sits at 25 in the RPI.
