No.22 Butler defeated Missouri State 93-59 to advance to the Semi-Finals of the Puerto Rico Tip Off

San Juan, PR - They didn't quite score the record-setting 144 points they did in the opener, but No.22 Butler (2-0) displayed more offensive and defensive efficiency on Thursday afternoon and defated Missouri State 93-59 in the openeing round of the Puerto Rico Tip Off.

Butler was led by junior Andrew Chrabascz and sophomore Kelan Martin who each scored 18 points in the victory.

Senior Kellen Dunham finished with 11 points (4/4 FG), while do-it-all senior Roosevelt Jones had 6 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal.

The Bulldogs shot 60% from the field (33-of-55) while holding Missouri State (0-2) to just 33.9% shooting (20-of-59).

Butler turned turnovers or missed shots into points in transition, something that head coach Chris Holtmann has looked to capitalize on this season.

One of the reasons the Bulldogs are able to effectively run the break is junior point guard Tyler Lewis. Lewis' creativity allows for the Bulldogs to push the ball up the floor and create easy baskets.

Lewis finished with 9 points and 10 assists on the day.

Missouri State held on in the opening few minutes to keep it close but the Bulldogs were too much. Butler went on to dominate the first half and finished with a 49-25 half time lead.

The Bears were led by Dequon Miller, who scored 15 points (4/12 FG), and Jarred Dixon, who scored 11 points.

It was more of the same in the 2nd half as the Bulldogs let off of the gas a little as well. The Bulldogs once again played 12 players througout the game, 10 of which scored.

The Bulldogs move on to the semifinals against former Atlantic 10 foe Temple (1-1), who defeated Minnesota in the opening round.

NOTES: Butler outrebounded Missouri State 40-32...Jackson Davis once again had a great game off the bench finishing with 9 points and 3 rebounds...Jordan Gathers saw the 2nd most minutes off the bench with 18, scoring 5 points and dishing out an assist...Tyler Wideman finished with 7 points, but 0 rebounds...Butler looks to advance to their 8th final in their last 13 non-conference tournaments against Temple.
