Butler is looking for a new head basketball coach

With Chris Holtmann leaving to become the new head coach at Ohio State, but looks for a replacement. Here are a few candidates for the job.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Butler is in the market for another head coach after Chris Holtmann agreed to a 8 year/3.1million per year contract on Friday morning. With his departure the Bulldogs and athletic director Barry Collier are in the market for another head coach. Below are a list of candidates:

Micah Shrewsberry - Assistant Coach - Boston Celtics

Shrewsberry has ties to the Butler program having been an assistant coach for the Bulldogs from 2008-11 before leaving for Purdue and ultimately the Boston Celtics a few years later. He has been one of the assistants with former Butler coach Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics since 2013. He has ties to the city having graduated from Cathedral High School (Indianapolis, IN). He was a solid recruiter during his time at both Butler and Purdue.

LaVall Jordan - Head Coach - Milwaukee

Jordan also has ties to the Butler program having been an assistant from 2004-07 as well as playing his collegiate basketball at Butler from 1997-2001. Jordan also had stops as an assistant at Iowa and Michigan before landing the head coaching position at Milwaukee this past off-season. Jordan compiled a 11-24 record in his first season in Milwaukee, but was hit with numerous challenges and transfers having taken over for Rob Jeter. They did reach the Horizon League Conference Tournament Finals in his first season. Jordan was an excellent recruiter at all of his stops at Butler, Iowa, and Michigan.btr

Michael Lewis - Assistant Coach - Nebraska

Lewis left the Butler program last spring to join the Nebraska coaching staff, but spent five season in Indianapolis as an assistant coach. Another quality coach with recruiting acumen as he was intrical in landing some highly touted prospects for the Bulldogs during his tenure.

Ryan Pedon - Assistant Coach - Butler

Pedon was a newcomer the Butler staff in 2015 but had stints at Miami (OH), Toledo, and Illinois before joining Butler as an assistant coach. He was very involved in the accumulation of the 2017 recruiting class which is the highest rated class in program history featuring multiple Top 100 players. If Butler wanted to take someone from the current staff and make them head coach, Pedon may be the pick.

Terry Johnson - Assistant Coach - Butler

Johnson has been on the staff since 2007 as an assistant coach. Before that he was director of basketball operations from 2004-06 before leaving for an assistant coaching position at IPFW from 2006-07.
