Fanaika visiting BYU

The state of Utah's top offensive lineman Brandon Fanaika visited BYU last Saturday. The hotly recruited lineman from Pleasant Grove High School has nine scholarship offers. That includes offers from BYU, Utah State, and seven others from Pac-12 programs.

BYU's opening day of fall camp started out with a bang. Jake Heaps and the Cougar offense went right to work setting off the aerial fireworks that make fans go, "Oohh, aahh." In attendance to see it all was BYU offensive lineman recruit Brandon Fanaika and 2013 top offensive lineman commit Brayden Kearsley.

Fanaika is also currently visiting BYU on Monday. He met with Coach Weber, Coach DuPaix and Coach Mendenhall, and is learning more about BYU.

"Yeah, I'm just going through all the academic programs of BYU today," Fanaika said prior to leaving for BYU on Monday. "I've already checked out the football side of things last Saturday, so now I'm just going to see the academic side of things."

There were rumblings that Fanaika might be committing to BYU on Monday. However, that likely won't be the case as the talented lineman continues to gather information in order to make a more informed decision.

"I'm just going down to check things out," Fanaika said. "I haven't made any plans to commit to anyone right now. I'm just going to head down there to see things."

Even if Fanaika doesn't decide to commit to BYU on Monday (Total Blue Sports will know as soon as he does, should he make that decision), one thing is certain: BYU has risen on his list, even though he's visited programs like Stanford and Utah.

"I like BYU and BYU has moved up because of what I've seen," Fanaika said. "I definitely like BYU, and like I've said before, it's a great place. I talked to Coach DuPaix and Coach Weber and BYU is definitely up there. I'm not sure if I'll commit today but, like I said, BYU has definitely moved up."

There is no doubt that while visiting BYU last Saturday, Fanaika got a close view of Outland Trophy candidates Matt Reynolds and Braden Hansen, and Rimington Trophy candidate Terence Brown. He also learned Monday that national top prospect Troy Hinds had just committed to BYU.

"Yeah, I heard about that!" Fanaika said. "That is just crazy."

Stay tuned Cougar fans, things are getting exciting!
